WYRD circle

What is a Wyrd Circle?
The name Wyrd comes from the norse mythology. It is the web of destiny woven by the three nornes -Past, Present and Future. Together they weave the fate of people.

Looking to our Past (history) we see that living with nature and the materials that nature provides creates a world that is not necessary easy, but is a way more balanced way to live.
Looking at our Present we created easier ways to live by dominating earth. This envokes a great dis-balance in the world. Fast fashion pollutes earth immensely.
Looking at Future, we fear. But how can we build a better world?
By questioning where it all went wrong and where to find our road to a healthier way of life we can build a better relationship with the future.

For this project I got inspired by fast fashion and how we can reduce pollution/overconsumption that threat our outer and inner landscapes, by looking at our grandparents i imagened a world where fabric was a thing to be grateful for. What where they doing that left a better footprint then the generations that followed? With the happenings that I organise we research old textile technologies that only need a landscape/nature and a community of human beings so that we explore and transform it to a more sustainable way of living.

All these ‘granny crafts’ that connect people trough their hands, heart and head.

Why is this political?
Well, tell me, what is the opposite of fast fashion… slow fashion? No… no fashion industry, just a community of people work with wild materials, sharing knowledge, experience, materials.

All our materials come straight from the land, so we make a connection with nature. But working with ‘rest materials’ like wool (at the moment) we create a niche where capitalism doesn’t really come.

Can we make a rugg to isolate a bus? Can a make a wool sweater where I can live in for the next 30 years? Can I create a garment that’s shows my authenticity, can I work with ancestral fibres like nettle?

Be part of the next happening and expand your knowledge, footprint and community.
